This spring we met up with the Ruecker family for a fun photo session at Kiwanis park. I am so pleased to call the Rueckers our friends. Kyle and Courtenay are warm, generous, funny people and they've passed all these traits on to their amazing children. These folks are expecting an addition to the family this spring. We are so thrilled for their happy news and can't wait to meet the new little one. Congratulations Ruecker family!
This January I had the pleasure of meeting the newest member of this family, sweet baby Molly. Newborns typically require some behind the scenes soothing before we get them settled in the posing basket. Molly, however, snuggled right up with mom and dad and didn't make a peep when we changed her outfit and posed her. I can honestly say this is the fist time I've photographed a newborn who didn't cry once. 2017, you're already full of surprises. I like it. I'd like to thank you guys for a fantastic photo shoot. I hope you have a wonderful year.
This September, Ashley and Curtis shared their wedding vows during an intimate ceremony in front of family and friends at Truly Unique Country Weddings. These lucky folks are one of the last couples to be married at this fantastic venue. Truly Unique have now retired from the wedding business after many years of hard work and wonderful service. I'm sure TUCW is happy to end their career with such a fantastic couple!
Ashley and Curtis really are fantastic to work with. These two are so relaxed. It must be from all the fresh air they get, hiking and canoeing with their pup Jake. Jake the dog served as an honorary groomsman and he even walked down the aisle with Curtis. He is, after all, an important member of the family!
On this beautiful September morning, Ashley and the bridesmaids started their day at Blush Beauty Bar where the crew did a fantastic job applying makeup to these already beautiful ladies. We then headed over to Ashley's home for snacks, hair, and final touches. Ashley is a very creative lady, which I'm sure serves her well in her Esthetics career. On this special day, she put her creativity to use, preparing a stylish and tasty brunch of appetizers and a DIY mimosa bar. Ashley's gorgeous sense of style was also apparent at the reception that she decorated in her signature chic fashion.
While the girls prepared for the day, Curtis and the groomsmen had a relaxing morning getting ready at his groomsman's house. As typical of most wedding days, the guys had a lot more time to visit and relax before getting into their suits.
In the mid-afternoon, we gathered just outside Regina at Truly Unique Country Weddings. Under the warm afternoon sun, Curtis and Ashley shared their vows in a simple and heartfelt ceremony. Following the ceremony we explored the grounds of TUCW for formal photos. We made sure to include some photos of the couple's canoe to celebrate their passion for adventure and each other. All in all, it was a perfect wedding day. We had great weather, great locations, and an amazing bride and groom. Everyone was smiling as the afternoon turned to evening.
After formal photos, Ashley and Curtis invited their guest to join them for the reception in the tent where they shared a great meal, music, and lots of dancing. Congratulations Ashley and Curtis! We wish you a lifetime of happiness.
In January of 2015, I started a 52 Week Photo Challenge. It was meant to be a playful way to document a very pivotal year in my life. I think it's really cool to see everything laid out this way. This was definitely the hardest year of my life with my dad passing in September, but I'm very glad I did this project because it reminds me of all the awesome people in my life who's love and support has helped me through it all.
I can't say enough about how excited I was to photograph Jessica and Ashleigh's wedding this November. It's always a great sign when you can geek out over Harry Potter with your clients. These beautiful brides put so much work into their wedding details. They crafted gorgeous paper flower bouquets using pages from their favorite books, donned Harry Potter socks, and Marauder's Map hand painted shoes. Perhaps the most important DIY detail was their very touching vows they wrote for each other. Pastor Carla got in on the Harry Potter theme and wore a stole with the Gryffindor colours just for the wedding.
With two book-loving brides it only made sense to do some formal photos in a library. We goofed around in the John Archer Library at the University of Regina. We also ventured outside for some more photos in the industrial area. As the sun set, we met up with the wedding guests at Crave Kitchen and Wine Bar for toasts, a delicious meal, dancing, and lots of laughter. Congratulations Jessica and Ashleigh! I have a good feeling your real life love story is every bit as brilliant as the stories you read together.
p.s I wanted to thank Jessica's mama for bringing me delicious gluten free carrot cake. Being a vegetarian with celiacs makes eating during wedding days a bit challenging. She made my day easier and yummier. What a sweet lady!
